Easter Sunday 2012

TRADITIONS!

I hope that you had a great Easter celebration. Easter evokes many memories of childhood traditions. One of my most memorable childhood traditions was singing, "He's Living Today," for the Sunday morning service. This year, I worked with the children's group in singing that song. It brought back sweet memories of singing with my friends.

I remember making the annual pilgrimage to the closet for our Easter hats and gloves and the excitement of wearing a new dress or at least "new" to me. :) My mother made a special effort to ensure that we had Easter hats, gloves and a special dress to wear.

On Sunday morning we would exchange Easter eggs with our friends. These had been painstakingly decorated the day before. Of course, I can't forget the excitement of seeing all the folks we hadn't seen since Christmas...That tradition lives on! :) After church, my mother prepared a lovely ham dinner and served our family and a variety of single guests along with the annual regulars. What a lot of work!

One year, I pestered my mother for a chocolate Easter bunny. It didn't seem like my annoying pleas would pay off, but I'll never forget the thrill that I felt when I woke up Easter morning to my very own white chocolate Easter bunny! Good thing it was there because I might not have risen for the Easter sunrise service without it. Rising for those requires another resurrection miracle! Thankfully, sunrise services are not a tradition in these parts!

Do you have a special tradition or memory that you would like to share? Would love to hear about it! Feel free to chime in on the comments box.
