Just In Case

Some of you may not know how Josh and I met.

Josh had the last minute opportunity to attend an annual conference hosted by the church and college (Texas Baptist College) that I was attending in October 2005. Interestingly enough, my sister Sonja's husband-to-be, whom we did not know at the time, also attended that same conference. How ironic!

I was taking my turn at our college table in the conference vendors room, and Josh was working the conference speaker's table as they were family friends. I decided I should go over and introduce myself to him because he was a visitor. I was talking to someone else at the time and had no romantic inclinations. Upon conversing, we realized that our backgrounds were similar in that our fathers were both pastors. Although, Josh's parents had been missionaries to Germany where Josh was born and later returned to the states to pastor.

We had a great conversation which included our hopes for the future with the people we were already interested in. He came back later that night to say good bye to me and life moved on. I graduated from college the following spring and moved back to Boston.

A year and a half later, I went to the mailbox and there was a letter from Josh saying, "You may not remember me, but I remember you... maybe because of the articles you have written for the Baptist magazine..." Of course, I remembered him. He had read my articles and decided to get in touch to see where life had taken me.

During our book table conversation in 2005, we talked about where we would be in five years. Never imagining that five years later, almost to the date, we would be dining at the Fairmont at Copley in Boston where he got down on one knee and ask me to marry him.
